Summer 2007

JONATHAN JACKSON

Jonathan Jackson, our April 2007 Boxer of The Month and up and coming Super Heavyweight (201+), graduated from Newton High School in 2005 and was a key running back on the 2004 State Finalist Newton Eagle football team.

His physical build and emerging boxing style mirrors the great Joe Frazier and Mike Tyson.  A member since March, he is learning skills that will no-doubt make him a serious contender in the upcoming months.

Jackson is serious about the sport and works in the Gym from 4:15 'till 7:30 four days a week.  He performs additional roadwork when not at the Club.  Although extremely strong and quick, he is working on reducing his weight to 225 pounds. 

MATTHEW MORIAN

Matthew Morian, our June and July 2007 Boxer Of The Month, is 12 and a 6th grade honor student attending Jasper Middle School.  He continues his family tradition of excelling in individual sports rather than team sports.  Morian is an accomplished rodeo competitor and has been since he could walk!  He has won numerous medals, trophies and other accolades during his past years of calf-roping and saddle competition.

Morian is developing into a youth leader at the Club.  His work habits and dedication have raised the bar for the other young athletes at Newton Gym & Boxing Club.  He is 100% supported by his brother, parents and grandparents as they know whatever Matthew sets his mind to, he'll make it happen. 

Weighing in at 105 pounds, Matthew is a fast learner and follows instruction extremely well.  With his fast hands and quick feet, Matthew will prove to be a champion.  

REGINALD "REGGIE" MAYES"

Reggie is a 12 year old student at nearby Burkeville Elementary School.  He is also a youth leader at the Club and is always busy with his workout schedule and when completed he simply works additional stations to keeping improving.  The Coaches never have to be concerned with this fellow not giving 100%!

Because of his size, nearly 5'- 4" and 156 pounds, he is at times difficult to match but as he approaches 13 he'll be able to fight some 14 and 15 year olds that weigh nearly the same as he.

Reggie is a quiet young man, sincere and compassionate.  But when the bell rings a switch is thrown and the battle begins!
