HOT PROSPECTS TO
WATCH!
SPRING 2008
ALEX McCAIN
Alex McCain, a senior at Newton High School, has been with our Club
since early summer, 2007. Strong, dedicated and a great student of the
science, he was voted our August 2007 Boxer Of The Month.
McCain works hard in the Gym for several hours after school 4 days a week.
He follows instructions well and he is his own best critic. Alex is
hard on himself especially when he makes an error during ring skills
training. He strives to perform each drill perfectly and never
runs out of enthusiasm or energy.
Weighing in at 164, Alex competed in the Southeast Texas Regional
Golden Gloves winning his 1st bout and coming up short on points in the
Championship bout.
Keep your eye on this guy ... he's the real
thing!
REGGIE MAYES
Reggie Mayes, a 13-year old student at Burkeville Elementary School, has
been with the Club for 2 years and continues to improve his skills and
conditioning daily. He was also a 2-time recipient of the Boxer Of
The Month honors in 2007.
At 5'8" and weighing in around 180, he competed in the Southeast Texas
Golden Glove Tournament in February, 2008 and lost the Championship bout on
a close decision. Traveling 30 miles to the Club, he rarely misses
practice and applies total concentration at every work station.
His last bout was in Crowley, Louisiana at the Texas vs. Louisiana
Interstate Boxing Championships. His excellent conditioning, footwork
and awesome power delivered him a Championship trophy in his weight and age
class.
ZANE CONNER
Zane, 10 and a student at Newton Elementary School, has been with the Club
the day he turned 8-years old. Tall for his age, Zane concentrates on
using his long reach on shorter opponents and racks up the points. In
2007, he was awarded the Texas State Silver Gloves championship trophy.
His last bout was on April 12th when he met up with a tough and determined
boxer from Louisiana. Footwork, agility and quick on-target punching
earned him the Championship trophy in his class.
JOSH
ALFRED
Josh Alfred, 19, begins his quest to become
an outstanding and recognized amateur boxer representing the Gulf Region LBC.
A 2006 graduate of Newton High School and a valuable member of the Texas
State Football Championship team in 2005, Josh has the drive necessary to
become a champion.
The training and discipline all our NHS football players receive from Coach
Curtis Barbay and staff will always make the difference when a former or
existing player steps foot in the ring. Josh is a prime example of
that foundation. He never questions station assignments and works out
hard even with injuries. Weighing in around 172, Josh is determined to
chisel his body even further to compete in the middle-weight class.
Keep your eye on this young man as he progresses this summer!
