HOT PROSPECTS TO
WATCH!
FALL 2009
Brandon Boyd
Brandon Boyd, 21,
joined the Club in late August to fulfill a dream of becoming a recognized
competitor in amateur boxing and without a doubt he is on his way!
Brandon's work habits in the Gym including his ability to accept instruction
and push himself at every station and drill are the traits winners possess.
Brandon and his brother, Matt, travel from the Kirbyville area to Newton
four days a week ... That's Dedication! Following their hour and a
half boxing training, he jumps right in with one of the adult
weight-training groups and follows a structured resistance training and core
program specifically designed to develop conditioning and endurance.
Boyd, a 6'-1" middle-weight, is destined to become a leader in the Club and
assist youth amateur boxers while setting the benchmark for others to
follow. Brandon's immediate goal is to compete in the Southeast Texas
Regional Golden Gloves to be held in January.
Judging the way he works out and is advancing rapidly in learning the "sweet
science", Brandon is destined to become the Golden Gloves champion and
continue to other regional and national events.
SAVANAH TYSON
Savanah Tyson, or "Skeeter" as we
call her, is an 12 year old 6th
grade student at Newton Middle School. She rarely misses a practice
and her work ethics are a benchmark for other youth athletes at the Club.
Weighing
in at 110 pounds, her hand speed, exceptional practice habits and ability to
listen to and apply instruction from her coaches will enable her to rise
quickly in the sport.
She is preparing with outstanding dedication for Police Athletic League
National Championship Tournament in October followed by the Southeast
Texas Golden Gloves Championship Tournament in January.
Savanah's latest victory was a resounding defeat of a capable challenger
from the Lion Hearted Boxing Club located in Port Arthur. Her
aggressive offense and ability to score heavily with body shot points lead
her to a unanimous decision by the judges.
Matt Boyd
Matt's excellent work ethics
is what you need to compete successfully in amateur boxing and he is on his
way to making a name for himself in the light-heavyweight bracket. His
awesome height, 6'-4", and long jab will surely wreck havoc on his future
opponents!
He always appears to have a smile on his face during his strenuous
weight-training program and while working at the various boxing drills he
endures daily. But when he gets in the ring and gloves up, there's no
smiling ... just a look of determination to exit the ring a winner.
Matt is a senior at Kirbyville High School and travels some 20 miles after
school with his brother to the Gym. He never complains about any drill
or workout station as he knows that hard work is necessary to become a top
contender in amateur boxing. His tenacity to learn the sport and get
in excellent physical shape is a prime trait to succeed and this young man
will do just that!
