HOT PROSPECTS TO
WATCH!
SPRING / SUMMER 2009
TRISTAN CLAY
HAMILTON
Tristan began his
amateur boxing program in March of 2009 and has made remarkable progress.
The 13-year old 6th grade student at Newton Elementary is one of the more
dedicated youth boxers that Newton Gym & Boxing Club has had the pleasure to
work with.
He is a converted southpaw and has made the transition well. Tristan's
natural powerful left hand can rack up points or quickly disable his
opponent when used in combination with body and head shots.
Lacking fear and embracing confidence, Tristan will soon be making his
appearance in the Gulf and Southern Regions of USA Boxing. Without a
doubt, this young man will use his self-discipline, emerging skills and
endurance to represent our Club in the next several months.
SAVANAH TYSON
Savanah Tyson, or "Skeeter" as we
call her, is an 12 year old 6th
grade student at Newton Middle School. She rarely misses a practice
and her work ethics are a benchmark for other youth athletes at the Club.
Weighing
in at 112 pounds, her hand speed, exceptional practice habits and ability to
listen to and apply instruction from her coaches will enable her to rise
quickly in the sport.
She prepared with outstanding dedication for the Southeast Texas Golden
Gloves Championship Tournament held in Houston and was
awarded the gold medal in her weight and age bracket.
Savanah had her next competition in Crowley,
Louisiana on March 14th in the Louisiana vs. Texas Championship Series.
Her hand speed, conditioning and desire to win totally overwhelmed her
opponent in the first round of the Series. Unfortunately, Skeeter
twisted her knee near the end of the round and was unable to continue.
She had no lasting knee damage and has been working hard at the Gym in
preparation for her next bout. Watch this girl because she's
determined to be a champion!
